New Deputy Forest Supervisor Selected for the Mt. Hood National Forest

Sandy, OR—June 26, 2019—Mt. Hood National Forest

Forest Supervisor Richard Periman is pleased to announce the selection of District Ranger Karen Schroyer as the new Deputy Forest Supervisor of the Mt. Hood National Forest.

Karen is currently the District Ranger for the Aspen-Sopris Ranger District on the White River National Forest in Colorado, where she has served since 2014.  She has been with the US Forest Service for close to 20 years, striving diligently to develop strong relationships with local governments and partner organizations.  Prior to working on the White River NF, she was a District Ranger on the Dixie National Forest in southern Utah, and a Developed Sites Program Manager on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest in northern Utah.  She spent over ten years in Recreation, Heritage, and Volunteer Resources at the Washington Office, and started her Forest Service career with the Salt Lake Ranger District as an Interpretive Ranger. Prior to joining the Forest Service, Karen worked in banking for ten years. She has a bachelor’s degree in Geography.

Karen and her husband Sam are looking forward to their move to Oregon and to exploring Mount Hood.  They both enjoy alpine, cross-country, and backcountry skiing, hiking, and traveling just about anywhere.

“Karen is going to be a great addition to the Mt Hood National Forest Leadership Team as well as the Region 6 Regional Leadership Team,” said Forest Supervisor Periman. “Her ability to build strong community and partner relationships will strengthen our already robust community engagement program and help us build a future of shared stewardship.”

Karen will report to her new job on the Mt. Hood National Forest in early August 2019.

“USDA is an equal opportunity provider, employer and lender.”
