Mt. Hood National Forest Seeks Campground Operators

USFS | Published on 10/4/2023

Greetings Recreation Residence Permit Holders,

I wanted to reach out about a unique opportunity on the Mt. Hood National Forest. Campground concessionaire operations!

We are hoping to find concessionaires that are passionate about connecting visitors with their public lands and providing high-quality recreational opportunities.

We have made a few notable changes from previous iterations that may catch your eye such as lessening the permit from 10 years to 5 (with a chance to extend 5 years). We also split the Forest’s recreation sites into multiple smaller concessionaire offerings. We are confident that these offerings will be both rewarding and lucrative for businesses and staff that can scale for a range of operations. We encourage you to consider this uniquely rewarding opportunity!

Check out our flyer (attached) as well as our upcoming Media Release (below) and please consider sharing with other interested partners.

Mt. Hood National Forest seeks campground operators

The Mt. Hood National Forest is currently accepting applications to operate and maintain campgrounds and day use sites across the Forest. To encourage local and smaller businesses, the Forest is bundling sites into six packages grouped across different geographic areas. Interested parties can apply to operate one or more of the different groups of sites. Campground operations permits will be filled with a 5-year term, with the possibility of extending an additional 5-years. The new permit term begins in 2024.

“Mt. Hood National Forest has been a popular place to camp for over a century, with families filling up its 93 campgrounds throughout the summer season,” said Meta Loftsgaarden, Mt. Hood National Forest Supervisor. “Campground operators are a vital part of the Forest Service’s ability to provide outdoor recreation for all Americans and we encourage businesses, non-profits, individuals, or agencies to apply.”

Detailed information about this opportunity and included recreation sites is at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/mthood/prospectus and is also posted on the federal business opportunities website at SAM.gov.

The Mt. Hood National Forest provides a broad range of quality recreational opportunities and experiences for visitors from around the world. The concession program represents one means of delivering recreation opportunities to the public and providing business opportunities to those interested in managing recreation sites on the Forest. Applicants are encouraged to consider new ways to enhance user experiences at existing campgrounds. This could include concession-owned yurts, cabins, or other overnight camping options, to name a few.

Complete applications must be received by November 29, 2023. Facilities and infrastructure information, recreation site maps, permit terms and requirements, and application instructions are listed in the prospectus advertisement:www.sam.gov/opp/6644d95f483e4f36b2eed723a33799d2/view
